With a population of approximately 300,000 inhabitants, perched at an altitude of about 3,400 metres, the prestigious city of Cuzco, former capital of the Inca Empire, is breathtaking and astounding. Although it has undergone many changes over the centuries, its old quarter still contains precious and wonderful relics of the past. Once the hub of Inca culture, Cuzco, whose name, as you'll remember, means "centre of the universe" in Quechuan, extended out in all directions.

The Plaza de Armas is built in the centre of the city and on the former Inca ceremonial site of Huacaypata, which was considered "centre of the universe". The Plaza des Armas is lined by the Cathedral and the Iglesia de la Compañía, as well as porticos of the various restaurants, cafés, hotels, souvenir shops and travel agencies.
