Isla Española is the southernmost island in the archipelago. It takes at least 10hrs to get here from Santa Cruz. The best time to visit the island is between the end of March and the end of December. During this period, the famous waved albatrosses can be observed here.

The first site is called Punta Suárez. Upon your arrival, you will no doubt be greeted by mockingbirds who will come inspect your shoes and maybe even alight on your head or your hands. Don't worry: these birds are simply very bold and curious. From there, a trail leads through several colonies of blue-footed boobies, marine iguanas and perhaps waved albatrosses. The colony of blue-footed boobies is one of the largest in the Galápagos. You'll also have a chance to see a geological formation showing a crack in the lava. When the water accumulated in the crack is compressed by the force of the waves, a stream of water shoots into the air. When the sea is fairly rough, the stream can go as high as 20m (65ft).

Located in the eastern part of Española, the second site is the pretty beach of Garner Bay that's frequented by sea lions and land iguanas. Snorkelling fans won't want to miss exploring the fascinating, silent world at the bottom of the bay.
