Isla Santa Cruz is the most populous island in the archipelago. The main town is Puerto Ayora, the commercial hub of local tourism. Most of the hotels, restaurants and souvenir shops are located on Avenida Darwin which runs through the town.

Accessible only by boat, Cerro Dragon (on the northwest part of Isla Santa Cruz), a new tourist site, owes its name to the prehistoric-looking land iguanas that roam peacefully about here. There is no guarantee that you will see any of these creatures. They were hunted for many years and have only recently reappeared on the island. The trail that winds its way amidst the cactuses starts out by running alongside a brackish lagoon where you might get to see a few flamingoes.
