Located four hours by from the Puno pier by boat, Isla Taquile has an area of 11 square kilometres and attracts more visitors than any other island off Peruvian shores. A flight of over 500 stairs awaits visitors on the island. It's an arduous climb, but your efforts will be amply rewarded by the magnificent panoramic view at the top. You'll see mountains all around you, and terraces like giant steps that lead all the way down to the lake. Nearly 350 families live on the island in adobe houses with no electricity or running water.
