The Parque Nacional Corcovado is unquestionably one of the most captivating in Costa Rica. Its 41,788 hectares protect a large part of the Osa Peninsula's tropical rainforest, and boasts eight different natural habitats. There are an additional 12,751 hectares of forest on the other side of the Golfo Dulce (Piedras Blancas sector), just west of Golfito. The park is a birdwatchers' paradise, with 367 species of birds including the magnificent scarlet macaw and the keel-billed toucan. Moreover, 140 species of mammals, 117 species of amphibians and reptiles, 40 species of freshwater fish and 6,000 species of insects have been identified here!

With an annual rainfall of 5.5 metres a year, this tropical rainforest has an incredibly rich plant life that includes nearly 500 kinds of trees, some of which can grow from 40 to 50 metres tall! The largest is the ceiba pentandra, which can even reach heights of 70 metres. You can completely lose your sense of reality in the stifling heat among these giant trees covered in moss, epiphytic plants and vines.
