There are chullpas all around Lake Titicaca, but the most famous are the Chullpas de Sillustani, an ancient cemetery some 34 kilometres northwest of Puno. Perched at an altitude of 4,000 metres, this "city of the dead" consists of a group of cone-shaped towers up to 12 metres high, overlooking the Laguno Umayo. These are made of enormous stones, which are bigger at the top than at the bottom.
