Finding your way around

By Plane
Chatrapati Shivaji International Airport (tel. 22-2681-3000, www.csia.in) receives international flights. It is located 30km north of downtown and "prepaid" taxis and the buses are by far the best ways reach Mumbai. They make the run between the airport and the city's hotel district, Colaba, in about 90min.

By Taxi
Since rickshaws are prohibited in the city centre due to pollution, black and yellow taxis abound. You should k now that, when they work, the taxi's metres do indicate the cost of your run, but rather a unit which must be multiplied by a certain number to calculate your fare. To find out how to work out the correct fare, you can contact the tourism office (123 Maharshi Karve Rd., tel. 22-20-74-33).

By Bus
The city's bus system works fairly well but is not really recommended because of the constantly jam-packed buses.

By Car
If you're part of a group of more than four people, it may be practical and more economical to rent a car and driver for the day.
