Bahamas |
The Bahamas has a tropical maritime climate. The Tropic of Cancer passes through Great Exuma and Long Island accounting for slight temperature variations from north to south in the Islands. The Gulf Stream blows along the western islands bringing clear warm waters. Polar air does make its way down to the islands in the winter but only succeeds in lowering temperatures by a few degrees. Winter temperatures in the central Bahamas, including New Providence, rarely fall below 15°C (60°F) and average about 24°C (75°F) in the afternoons. In the summer, nighttime temperatures rarely fall below 25°C (78°F) and often top 32°C (90°F) in the afternoons. Winter temperatures vary by 10° from north to south. Summer temperatures are pretty similar throughout the islands.
Summers are very humid in The Bahamas. It can rain at any time throughout the year, though the months from May to October are generally wetter. The quick afternoon showers and thunderstorms usually clear up fast. The northern islands receive 20% more rain than the southern ones.
