Like most tropical countries, Mexico has two principal seasons, a rainy season and a dry season. In general, precipitation and temperatures increase from June to October, while from November to May it is cooler and dryer.
In the Yucatán, the proximity of the coasts has a definite influence on the temperature and on the humidity level. During the summer, regions bordering the Caribbean and the Gulf of Mexico stay cool because of the trade winds, whereas in the jungle of the interior the air is hot and heavy. Rain showers are common in April and May and between September and January, when temperatures hover at about 30C. The risk of hurricane is high in September and October, and the sky is often cloudy. Winter is the most pleasant season in the area.
