Blessed with climatic conditions diverse enough to satisfy all tastes, Colombia offers a desert climate (found mainly on the Guajira peninsula), a damp tropical climate (in the Amazon forest and the Darien) and a temperate climate (in the Andes region). In spite of this great diversity, there are only two seasons in Colombia, due to its proximity to the equator. The so-called dry season, which Colombians refer to as Verano, lasts from December to March, while the rainy season, known as Invierno lasts through the rest of the year.
The weather is hot all year round in Cartagena, with the average temperature varying only between 25 and 30 °C. The most pleasant season extends from December to March, not only because it is the dry season, but also because the evenings are freshened by a light breeze, making the heat more tolerable. From April through August, regular light showers make the hot climate heavier, and the temperature can reach up to 45 °C. The months of September, October and November are the least appealing. Brief, torrential downpours beat down on the city every day, even flooding certain neighbourhoods. The number of hours of daylight, on the other hand, is constant throughout the year.
