New England

New England

New England

One of the characteristics of the New England area is that it features four distinct seasons. The temperature can climb above 86°F (30°C) in summer and fall below –13°F (–25°C) in winter. If you travel to the region during each of these two seasons, you may feel as though you have visited two different countries.

From late November to mid-March is the ideal season for those who can’t get enough of skiing, snowmobiling, ice-skating, snowshoeing and other winter sports.

Spring is a rather brief season (mid-March to late May) and is characterized by slush, a mixture of melted snow and mud. As the melting snow slowly reveals grass turned yellow from ice and mud, then changing to a deep green, nature awakens in a most spectacular way.

From late May to late August, Mother Nature has a surprise in store for those who are used to cooler temperatures. Indeed, days are often very hot and humid. During this period, vegetation becomes luxurious, as city streets are decorated with flowers and terraces are filled with people. This is also the season to enjoy festivals of all kinds.

September, October and November mark the season of colours, as the changing leaves turn the countryside into a beautiful, vividly colored living painting. Nature seems to explode in a wide array of colours, from bright green to scarlet red to ochre yellow. There can be occasional hot periods, such as Indian summer, but in general, temperatures are cooler and evenings are downright chilly.
