Washington D.C. |
Washington enjoys a temperate continental climate. The dominant winds are from the west, which does not prevent the air from becoming very humid, due to the proximity of Chesapeake Bay and the Atlantic Ocean. The level of precipitation is about the same all year round – between 70 and 105 millimetres per month.
The most pleasant seasons are spring and fall, when the temperatures are mild and the city is decked out in blossoming flowers or colourful leaves. Washington summers are so hot and humid that many residents flee to the mountains or the shore. The midday heat can be truly stifling. On the other hand, the nights are balmy. From December to February, it gets cold enough for snow to pile up on occasion. It is even possible to go skiing in the Appalachians.
